Moisture Removal Efficiency of Munters DOAS Equipment Exceeds ASHRAE 90.1
The revised ASHRAE Standard 90.1 now requires a minimum rating of 4.0 for the Moisture Removal Efficiency (MRE) of Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS).
What is Moisture Removal Efficiency?
Moisture Removal Efficiency (MRE) is a measure of the energy efficiency of a dehumidification process. MRE is the water vapor removed from the air at a defined inlet air temperature and humidity, divided by the total energy consumed by the dehumidification equipment such as the Munters DryCool Standard (HCU).
MRE can be expressed in several different ways. An application MRE can be developed for a single unit and operating point or the unit performance at four different conditions can be combined per the formulas in ASHRAI 920 to define a product’s MRE:
MRE = latent work / input power (lb / kWh)
What is the MRE rating of Munters DryCool units?
Through extensive testing Munters has found that their DryCool ERV equipment can achieve an MRE as high as 10.8 during peak season. This performance exceeds ASHRAE’s minimum requirement by a factor of two.
